Johnny has acquired a Classic Model Archtop from custom luthier Bill Comins. He uses the archtop in the studio.

Johnny uses a Godin Acousticaster, a Godin A6, and a Godin Multiac nylon string.
Johnny also has his 1939 Gibson J-35 that belonged to his grandfather, currently displayed in the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame. He also has a 1968 D-35 Martin that he uses in the studio.

Thanks to Cliff Cultreri of destroyallguitars.com, Johnny now exclusively uses Fat Jimmy Amplifiers! In the studio, Johnny uses his Fat Jimmy Jefferson 100. He also continues to use his Reeves Space Cowboy when a British tone is needed, along with a custom amp built for him by his dear friend Paco Pasqual! He also has several other amps, including a Music Man HD-150 head, Music Man HD-112 combo, Victory V100 head, and a Victory Super Duchess combo. These heads all run into Johnny’s 2x12 Avatar cabinet loaded with Celestion G12-K100 speakers. It is then mic’d using a Sennheiser e906. Johnny's amps are power protected by the AmpRx Brown Box, and the ToneShield provides proper dispersion of sound.

Johnny proudly uses Earthboards, which enables him to put his pedals on magnetic boots. These boots allow for easy on and off access. Even though Earthboards has their own proprietary power source, Johnny has used Voodoo Lab power supplies for the past 25 years. He's using the Pedal Power 3 Plus on his bigger board, and the Earthboard battery pack on the travel board. There are a number of amazing pedal companies that have endorsed Johnny throughout the years including Keeley Electronics, Metal Pedals, Boss, Eventide, ISP Technologies, Source Audio, Walrus Audio, DLS Effects, Barber Electronics, Xotic Effects, TC Electronics, JHS Pedals, Dunlop, Empress Effects, Greer Amps, Origin Effects, Digitech, Analog Alien, Amp Mojo, J. However, having the best sounding cables that are tough as nails connects everything together. Tsunami Cables are the best for doing just that! The Fishman Loudbox Artist is an important addition to Johnny‘s rig. It provides killer tone when his acoustic guitar picking is needed. He also loves and proudly endorses Shubb Capos. To Johnny, they are a must-have when playing acoustic guitar. Protecting your amplifiers is important! Johnny uses Kangaroo Covers when he needs quick protection on the go! They are rugged and offer pockets on each side to place amp accessories! They are the best! When super protection of your amplifiers is a concern for any serious road musician, Johnny highly recommends King Kong Cases! They are built like tanks and you never have to worry about your amps AT ALL when you have one of their amazing cases. When Johnny uses his combo amp, sometimes it can be very hard to hear. So, Johnny now loves the Mud Stand! It is a foam amp stand that is easy to pack and assemble. It tilts your combo amp back perfectly so you can hear yourself in any situation! It also keeps the direct line of sound from the audience as well. It is a must-have for all guitar players out there!
